What is being offered?
# What does “peptide” tell me about the offer?
The useful detail on an offer is the medicine’s name. “Peptide” alone leaves too much open.
## A family name, not a treatment plan
In peptide care, the word peptide describes linked small units of the same kind that proteins contain.
Insulin belongs to this family.
Peptide is a name for a type of substance. That name gives no answer about US legality or safety. This information is dated 26 September 2026.
So the next question is quite specific: which medicine, and what is it meant to help with?
## Which kind of product is it?
An approved medicine
The FDA is the US Food and Drug Administration.
Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) has FDA approval, as does tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound).
FDA approval applies to the named medicine and the health problem it is approved to treat. It does not cover every product called a peptide.
A medicine mixed for a particular need
With compounding, a pharmacy mixes or prepares the medicine for a particular need. It supplies that preparation rather than the factory’s finished product.
The pharmacy’s preparation is sold without an FDA review of its safety, quality or effects.
Compounding can be legal. It can help when the approved medicine cannot meet a patient’s need.
Ask the pharmacist which rules allow the exact medicine being offered to you.
A chemical marked for research
Some offers tell people to take chemicals marked “for research purposes”. Other labels say “not for human consumption”: the product is not meant to be taken by people. FDA advice dated 26 September 2026 urges people to avoid semaglutide, tirzepatide and retatrutide offered this way.
That label says the product is for research, even when the offer tells you to take it. Ask who would review your health and answer later care questions before accepting any medicine offer.
Could you write the exact medicine name on paper and say what it would treat? Does it have FDA approval, or is it made by compounding?
