Ask the health plan

Could my health plan help with the cost?

Have the medicine named on the coverage request, along with the reason for using it. A broad question about “peptides” leaves the plan guessing.

The purpose can change the answer

Medicare calls its help with prescription bills Part D. Whether it can pay depends on what the medicine treats. These US rules are dated 26 September 2026.

Its usual benefit excludes medicines used for weight loss, but a medicine may be coverable for another accepted medical use.

The plan must still check its list of covered medicines and give any required approval before it pays.

Ask what applies to the product and use written on your own plan.

Ask about the separate Medicare programme

People who already have Medicare drug cover may qualify for temporary help from a programme called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. Its payments are handled separately from normal Part D payments. These details are dated 26 September 2026.

GLP-1 is the name of a hormone, a natural signal in the body. These medicines copy its effect on appetite and blood sugar.

People who qualify pay $50 themselves for each monthly supply of certain medicines under the Bridge. It runs from 1 July 2026 to 31 December 2027.

Age is only the first check

You must be at least 18, and your weight and health conditions must also meet the Bridge’s rules.

Eligible plan types include separate drug plans under Part D. Medicare Advantage plans can qualify when they combine coordinated care with drug cover.

Ask your prescriber to check your plan type, height, weight and health conditions against the full list linked below.

For 2026, the Bridge excludes anyone whose GLP-1 medicine was already paid for through Part D that year. The rule for looking back at earlier drug cover in 2027 has not yet been set.

The Bridge requires a prescription, then approval before payment. A central service handles that approval for the programme in 2026.

Ask your prescriber to arrange the approval request and explain the answer to you.

With type 2 diabetes, the route is ordinary Part D rather than this Bridge.

What the payment does to your other costs

Part D limits your own spending on medicines it covers during the year. Bridge spending earns no progress towards that limit. Reaching the limit does not end your Bridge payments.

Even people who get low-income help through Part D must pay the Bridge’s full $50 each month.

Check the eligibility details with the programme

Read the official Bridge eligibility details

Ask the prescriber and the plan which route applies before relying on a quoted payment.
